We Rough Planet editors don’t like to pick favourites, but if you were to really press us hard, we might be willing to say that among the villages in the eastern reach of Lund kommun, Dalby is a true gem. Why so, I hear you ask? Well, you’d have to visit to really understand—it’s a vibes thing, perhaps.
As to reasons for visiting, that’s a bit easier: Dalby’s a great base for exploring the glorious local landscape, and somewhere to return to for a great meal after you’ve been walking or cycling around all day. Be sure to check out the stenbrott (old quarry), one of many such former industrial sites that have been allowed to transform into unique microclimatic ecosystems! You might even want to take a dip in the water on a hot day… though do note that the authentic Skånian way of wild swimming means doing it without any clothes on. No one will think any the less of you for wearing your Speedos—or at least, no one will actually say anything—but do be prepared for the possibility of naked Swedes wandering about the place. It’s rude to stare!
