Osby

The eponymous Osbysjön south of the town is a popular spot for messing around in boats, but you need to get past the hydroelectric installations before you can really get moving toward the coastline.

Osby kommun is as far northeast as you can get in Skåne without wandering over the border into Kronoberg or Blekinge counties. The titular town is by far the largest settlement in this oddly-shaped administrative region, and both the most likely and the best reason for being there is that it’s pretty close to the highest navigable point on Helge Å.

The eponymous Osbysjön south of the town is also a very popular spot for messing around in boats, but you need to get past the bigger hydroelectric installations before you can really get moving toward the coastline, if that’s your aim. Once you’re on the lower stretch of the river, you can sail all the way to Åhus… assuming you don’t get distracted by one of the towns (or the water-dwelling communities) along the way.
